Artwork by - Rohan JagadeesanRani Rampal - Indian women’s Hockey team captain Rani Rampal’s, a village girl, is the first-ever hockey player to win the prestigious 'World Games Athlete of the Year' award. So how did a village girl from a relatively humble background reach the pinnacles of Hockey globally? It all began at the age of 6 when she began training at the Shahabad Hockey Academy in Haryana. Her father was a cart puller and her mom was a maid. They often struggled to make ends meet. And when she decided to become a hockey player, she was faced with immense criticism. “Papa would earn Rs.80 a day and couldn't afford to buy me a stick. Everyday, I’d ask the coach to teach me too. He’d reject me because I was malnourished. He’d say, ‘You aren’t strong enough to pull through a practice session. When I told my family, they said, ‘Ladkiya ghar ka kaam hi karti hai,’ and ‘Hum tumhe skirt pehen kar khelne nahi denge. ’’ But Rani never never lost hope, fully dedicated to her dream to be a Hockey player. She made history at the age of 15 when she participated in the 2010 World Cup India. She was the youngest player and scored 7 goals in the tournament. That year, India finished 9th in the World Women’s hockey rankings, the country's best performance since 1978. Today she is the Captain of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team.As she leafs our country into Olympic Semi Final against Argentina, we wish her and the entire women’s hockey team best of luck! #chakdeindia#tokyoolympics #womeninsports #generationequality #womeninolympics #womenempowerment #girlpower ... Artwork by - Rohan JagdeeshanPursula Venkata Sindhu, or popularly known as @pvsindhu1 won her 2nd #olympic medal - a bronze- after defeating Chinese badminton player He Bingjiao. She is the first Indian athlete to earn two consecutive Olympic medals. Coming from a family of athletes, one may believe PV Sindhu’s journey was easier compared to other athletes. However, her achievements are a result of painstaking amount of hard work and unfettered determination. For over 12 years, her father would wake her up at 3 am to take her to Pullela Gopichand for training; walking around 120 kilometers everyday. She currently trains under South Korean coach Park Tae Sang. Her journey thus has far has been one of hardwork, dedication, consistency and filled with personal sacrifices. Her physical and mental fitness has played a critical role in her success. This #rebelgirl continues to inspire a generation! We hope that in the coming years, she is able to achieve even higher milestones! Oh and we must add - so far all the 3 medals that have been won by India in the Tokyo Olympics, have been won by #rebelgirls!!!#tokyoolympics #womeninsports #generationequality #womeninolympics #womenempowerment #girlpower ... Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, nurses have played a critical role in healthcare systems globally. Their role in treating patients with COVID-19 involves detecting suspected cases with infections; helping in decontamination; coordination with other healthcare providers; supplying holistic nursing practices in managing multiple infections simultaneously; playing critical roles in expanding care services; and dealing with the families of patients. It is heartwarming to know that throughout one of the darkest periods of humanity, nurses have been a guiding light, and this is our special way of thanking them. Nellie Bly was the first female to pursue what is known today as investigative journalism. Her work seeks to evoke awareness about issues in society. One of them being her article exposing the conditions of the patients of the Blackwell’s Island in New York City, where she went undercover to analyse the problem. The Women’s Suffrage Movement and the events of World War I are also some topics covered under her writings. As a writer, Nellie Bly focused her early work for the Pittsburgh Dispatch on the lives of working women, writing a series of investigative articles on women factory workers. However, the newspaper soon received complaints from factory owners about her writing, and she was reassigned to women's pages to cover fashion, society, and gardening, the usual role for women journalists, and she became dissatisfied. Determined to do something no girl had done before, she traveled to Mexico as a foreign correspondent, to study the lives and customs of the people. The information she gathered was published in a book titled ‘Six months in Mexico’ Although her writing led to popular unrest during her lifetime, her influence in the field of journalism can be seen even today.#WorldPressFreedomDay #rebelgirls #womeninmedia #journalism ...
